Loom Textures for Percussion, Piano, and Voice (MacDougal Street Blues):
Composed in January-Feb 2004 for the American Textile History Museum. Premiered by the UMass Lowell Percussion Ensemble.
Based on the recordings of two mid 20th century Looms, the piece exhibits historical elements of the Lowell-Merrimack Region area with distinct references to jazz, Kerouac Beat literature, and the Industrial Revolution. Hailed as a uniquely contemporary fusion of traditional vs. non-traditional styles and a "rambunctiously fresh and original" interplay of literature and acoustical physics, it premiered to a sold out audience in April of that year.
